Description
Broad term for music linked to oral traditions. Traditional Folk Music originated from music that accompanied social activities, and different groups often have their own types of Folk music.
In our context, used as a distinct category from the high art concept of Classical Music and other relatively modern forms of written popular music (Pop, Rock).
We will be focusing on Contemporary Folk, which is music that still has certain forms of European or American folk music as its major influence, yet bringing it from a traditional context into that of popular music.
Does not necessarily mean ‘rural’.
